Tips For Getting A Better Night’s Sleep

When you wake up in the morning, do you find that you feel less than rested? Perhaps you feel like a nap is in order. Lack of sleep can range from sleepiness and sluggishness to health problems and poor decision-making. A good night’s rest is part of your whole well-being. Read on for ways to count the proverbial sheep with ease.

Look for health issues

If you are having difficulty getting quality sleep, it is time to consult the experts to determine whether you may have underlying health concerns. If you have jaw pain, you might be experiencing temporomandibular joint dysfunction or TMJ. When this occurs, you can feel pain around your jaw while sleeping, eating, and moving your jaw.

Seek TMJ Treatment right away to help alleviate pain, manage symptoms, and correct the problem at its core. Let the professionals help you get back to your life so you can live better and sleep well every night.

Tips For Getting A Better Night's Sleep

Assess your environment

The room in which you sleep is an important consideration when trying to determine why you are receiving subpar sleep. Look at these details and adjust them as needed.

  • Temperature – The optimal bedroom temperature is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Achieve this number by installing a programmable thermostat. Program it to 65 degrees approximately 30 minutes before going to bed and to automatically change to your desired temperature when you wake up.
  • Light – If your room is too bright when you are ready to retire, consider investing in room darkening shades. They will block out most of the sun’s rays so your brain will not think you need to stay awake. A gradual sunlight alarm clock will slowly mimic the sun’s morning light to aid you in a gradual awakening instead of a sudden jolt that most alarms offer.
  • Bedding, etc. – If your mattress leaves you achy every morning and makes it unpleasant and difficult to fall asleep, it may be time for a new one. Visit a mattress showroom instead of buying online if you are able. This way you can “test drive” different mattresses to find the best one for you.

Revisit your pillows and blankets next. If they are old and worn, purchase new ones with filling and materials that you find comforting. For the pillows, try to buy them in person so you can feel how firm or soft they are.

  • Noise – For some people, silence is difficult to bear. If you fall into this category, try a white noise machine. An alternative is listening to brown noise, which is a compilation of base notes that some find soothing. Another group of people may need to put in earplugs for complete silence. Try each option to find out what works well for you.

Be mindful of screen time

Here is a video discussing whether screens prevent you from going to bed and receiving quality sleep throughout the night.

If sleep is elusive, contact your healthcare provider, look at your environment, and try alternative methods to get better rest. Sleep is essential for optimal functioning throughout your life. It will leave you feeling happier and more present in your daily activities.
