Do You Have the Right Lighting in Your Office?

As you might expect, I spend a lot of time at my desk working. With everything that I’ve got going on, that often means late nights and/or early mornings before the sun comes up! My eyes get tired from looking at the screen with dim lighting after a while. Unfortunately, I’ve got deadlines to adhere to, so I can’t let eyestrain stop me!

That said, I’ve learned a few tricks over the years to win the war on eye strain, and one of them is to have good lighting in your office. Too much or too little light can make already tired eyes much worse. Sometimes it’s hard to get the amount of light that you need, too. You may find that a light that works great in the summer is totally inadequate in the fall. It all depends on your room, the time of day, and even the weather.

Thanks to modern technology, you won’t have to buy a bunch of different bulbs to give your room the perfect amount of light for working at any time of day, in any weather, and in any room in your home. New “smart” lamps adjust to the lighting in your room and eliminate the need for guesswork. I love this concept!

For example, the super stylish BenQ e-Reading lamp is extremely tech-friendly. I recently received a sample lamp for review and I really enjoy the modern style, ease of use and awesome options for lighting my office.

The built-in ambient sensor automatically detects the light levels of the room and adjusts its brightness accordingly. This is especially great if you live in a place where you go from rain (or snow!) to sunshine and back again quickly. You don’t even have to get up from your desk. The reading lamp chooses the perfect light to help you work! There are also controls that will allow you to manually adjust the lamp, but I like the automatic feature the best.

I also really like the lamp because of the “Smile Curve Technology” – basically, the lamp’s light is shaped like a smile, which gives it a 35-inch light range and an illuminance of 1800 lux. It’s also designed to perfectly complement screens because the brightest part of a screen is the center.

Another bright feature – (see what I did there?) – of the BenQ e-Reading lamp is that it’s a LED bulb. The LED panels have a lifespan of approximately 50,000 hours, or around 17 years. That’s a crazy number of light bulbs saved from landfills!

The lamp is also quite flexible and can be adjusted to any position you’d like, so even if your desk is awkwardly configured, you won’t be stopped by any shadows or dark spots. The flexibility also makes it perfect for other places, too; the lamp makes a nice addition to a sewing room, a craft table, or even on a vanity table to give makeup lighting.

It’s so nice to be able to get a little bit more done without the (literal) headache caused by poor lighting. If you suffer from eyestrain, consider upgrading your lighting first. You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference it makes!
