Discover Pixar In A Box | Cars 3 Event

Have you heard about Pixar In A Box? I hadn’t either but I’m so glad I discovered this program during my visit to Pixar Animation Studios.  This visit was part of an all-expense paid press trip centered on insights and a celebration of the upcoming CARS 3 film (in theaters June 16th.)

During our visit to Pixar Animation Studios, we had the good fortune to meet with Elyse Klaidman, Director of Animation Studios Exhibitions and Educational Partnerships at Pixar Animation Studios, and Tony DeRose, Research Group Lead.  They shared their insights on Pixar’s culture that celebrates life-long learning and how Pixar In A Box came to be.

This three year project in collaboration with Khan Academy was developed to extend learning beyond the walls of the campus for classroom and home use.

Pixar In A Box is designed to show users how concepts used in the classroom apply to Pixar films.  Each topic is hosted by a Pixar employee and brings to life things like how simple shapes or equations translate into the animation process.

This hand-on learning adventure allows students to fully understand how school subjects have practical application in the real world.  Topics include math, science, and the newest segment on storytelling, which is a central component of the Pixar culture.  For every decision and every film, it all comes back to storytelling!

The folks at Pixar wanted to make the program easy for teachers to integrate the learning segments into the classroom.

Geared toward middle school and high school students, each lesson contains video instruction, interactive activities and best of all, is free to use!

I’m excited to bring Pixar In A Box into our home as a supplemental learning activity for my sons and have shared the resource with our local teachers, too.  I, personally, enjoy the lessons I’ve accessed so far and find that it truly offers interesting insights into the world of animation films.  Be sure to check it out!

CARS 3 Preview

Using Pixar In A Box will certainly give you a greater understanding of the process that goes into making a film like the highly anticipated CARS 3.  In future articles, I’ll be sharing lots of fun facts and insights into the making of CARS 3.  For now, take a peek inside the film with this exciting new trailer:

CRAZY 8 DRAMA — In “Cars 3,” Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) hits the road in an effort to reignite his career. Along the way, he finds himself in the middle of a smash-and-crash, figure-8 race, facing off against local legend Miss Fritter, a formidable school bus who—like #95 himself—doesn’t like to lose. Featuring Lea DeLaria (Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black”) as the voice of Miss Fritter, Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 3” opens in U.S. theaters on June 16, 2017. ©2017 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.
ROAD TO VICTORY — When faced with a new generation of racers who threaten to derail his career, Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) teams up with tech-savvy, unconventional trainer Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo) to find his way back to the top. Directed by Brian Fee, produced by Kevin Reher and co-produced by Andrea Warren, Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 3” opens in U.S. theaters on June 16, 2017. ©2017 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.
