Quick & Easy Halloween Candy Bowl DIY with Scotch Color & Pattern Duct Tape

Patterned Duct Tape is, by far, one of my favorite new craft supply inventions.  So simple, yet so clever, versatile and fun!

Scotch Patterned Duct Tape can add color to your Halloween easily whether you are creating costumes, enhancing home decor, or crafting gifts.  I took a whirl at transforming a plain black 10-cent plastic bowl into a candy dish to keep on hand for family during the Halloween season.

The results are so cute even my sons commented when they saw it.  Immediately the also saw the potential to cover boxes for their collections (of cards, rocks, and so on) and binders for school.  Due to it’s simplicity, creating a Scotch Patterned Duct Tape bowl or box is a terrific craft for children. We’ll certainly be working on their projects soon!

Follow the easy-peasy instructions below to craft a fashionable Halloween Candy Bowl for your Trick-or-Treaters.  Feel free to change up the tape colors or patterns to suit your personal style.

Supplies:

Storage Container or Bowl
Scotch Duct Tape (Halloween Colors)
Scissors

Instructions:

Select color palette for candy bowl.  (In example, a black plastic bowl was used with Tangerine Orange and Monster Alley pattern tape.)  Apply a strip of Tangerine Orange tape from bottom to top of bowl.  Drape tape over the rim of the bowl and overlap approximately 4 inches of tape in the inside of the bowl.

Continue applying strips of Tangerine Orange tape around the bowl, in the same manner, leaving a little less than the width of the tape in space between each tape application.

Continue applying Tangerine Orange tape around the bowl until you return to your starting position.  Re-position the tape if needed, to ensure a smooth design.  (One of the things I love best about Scotch Duct Tape is that the adhesive allows for easy re-positioning prior to pressing down the tape to seal.)

Smooth out any wrinkles and press firmly on tape to ensure smooth result.  Apply a strip of Monster Alley pattern tape from bottom to top of bowl (between the Tangerine Orange strips.)  Drape tape over the rim of the bowl and overlap approximately 4 inches of tape in the inside of the bowl.

Continue applying Monster Alley tape around the bowl until you return to your starting position.

Flip the bowl over.  Cut a 5 inch strip of Monster Alley pattern tape.  Apply horizontally, covering the ends of the tape overlap strips.

Continue cutting 5 inches strips and applying to inside of bowl.  Slightly angle strips as you are applying to adapt to the curve of the bowl.

Fill bowl with candy for Trick-or-Treaters, family, or Halloween celebrations and enjoy!

Additional ideas:  Vary the placement of the tape, use a zig-zag pattern or smaller pieces of tape for a mosaic effect.  Use three or four colors and patterns of tape to create an entirely new design.  The sky really is the limit with this versatile craft tape.
