Having lived in the Appalachian region of rural Kentucky in one of the most impoverished counties in the nation, I’ve been able to witness the joy that the Toys for Tots program brought to many a child during the holiday season.  It truly makes your heart smile to see a child believe in the magic of Christmas when they receive a special gift!

You may think a toy can’t help, but there are over 16.4 million children in the United States who live in poverty.  Food, shelter, clothing – those are all givens and luckily, there are many government and local programs in place to help support these needs (though, certainly they still need your donations!) There are very few organizations covering special desires of these children (who did not ask to be born into an economically depressed situation.)

Can you imagine a little superhero without a cool toy under the Christmas tree?  It happens. More often that you might think.

That’s what makes organizations like Toys for Tots so precious… and you can help!

Amazing started an amazing initiative on Giving Tuesday where customers can easily donate a toy to Toys for Tots via Alexa.

Simply say, “Alexa, donate to Toys for Tots.” This is the first time that customers can donate a product to a charity via voice shopping and better yet, Amazon will be matching customer donations throughout the end of the year – toy for toy – doubling customers’ contributions.

You have the power to battle this crime against Christmas trees in Appalachia and other areas of the U.S.  Talk to your Alexa today!
