Hot Toys for 2012: Babalu Shadow Stories

Shadow Stories Camping Out

When you intersect reading with creative, imaginative play, wonderful products like Babalu’s Shadow Stories emerge!

Shadow Stories are a unique story book activity theater that guides your child on a entertaining adventure, bringing the story to life with interactive shadow play.

When I first saw Shadow Stories, I was reminded of nights my siblings and I used to make shadow puppets on the wall via the stream of light from the street lamps through our window.  It’s amazing the imaginative characters and animal renditions we came up with.

As we live in the country now, my sons do not have the same “street lamp shadow puppet” opportunities that we had, so I knew Shadow Stories would be a great way to share my memories with them while offering them a way to create their own.

All it took was unwrapping the Shadow Stories Camping Out Book to engage my youngest son’s interest (always curious) but when I pulled out the flashlight (included with the book) I knew I had his undivided attention.

And capturing his undivided attention with a book is always a wonderful thing!  It’s hard enough to pry our children away from electronic games and such, but sometimes even more difficult to engage their complete attention to reading. A very happy mom moment when you can achieve this!

Shadow Stories Camping Out

The Shadow Stories Camping Out follows three boys on a backyard camp-out that unfolds into an evening of fun as their eyes play tricks on them, creating curious objects in the shadows.  The storytelling is engaging and fun, but the extra excitement begins when the flashlight comes out to reveal the shadow shapes!

Shadow Stories Camping Out

Shadow Stories are now a huge hit in our home and my son has requested this as a standard bed time story activity.  After reading the story tomorrow night, I plan to show him how to make shapes with not just the story boards, but with his hands and different objects in the room.

Additional Shadow Stories “Time For Bed” and “Forest Fairies” are also available to enchant and engage your child into reading and exploring the curious world of shadow play.  Truly a fabulous gift suitable for every child, ages 3 and up on you holiday shopping list.

Babalu also has a terrific line of Felt Tales and other exciting products that encourage creative play. For more information, visit http://www.babaluinc.com/

What a neat idea! My son hosts camp outs in our back yard with friends often. I’ll have to consider this 🙂
