The $2 You Just Dropped in the Vending Machine Today Could Feed a Family Tonight – Kentucky Relief Efforts

List of need from local shelter

I am writing this note in the comfort of my home, where I fortunately have power and four walls to shelter me from the cold outside. My cup of coffee is hot and my pictures of loved ones hang on the wall.

My neighbors are not so fortunate.

Today, they will live in a shelter with access to only what the kindness of strangers provide, staring at walls that are unfamiliar. Tonight, they will huddle close to each other, (if lucky) near a wood stove, and brave another night without power.

This is the reality of living in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that have inflicted tragedy and loss for multiple states.

My area, in the Kentucky Appalachias has suffered greatly.

Food is scarce and our area is in critical need of supplies.

Even a $1 will help feed a family tonight, provide a child with diapers, or help give blankets to families who have no beds.

Here are the ways you can help:

RuralMom.com is sponsoring a food drive to help with immediate needs.
If you would like to make a direct donation to support FOOD SHELF efforts for Menifee and Morgan Counties, please contact us at ruralmoms AT gmail DOT com .  All money will  be used for food purchase to be delivered directly to shelters.  No amount is too small, when people are hungry, a few dollars can go a long way!

Donation information, additional drop-off locations, and local volunteer opportunities can be found at

Friends or family who have been unable to locate loved ones since Friday’s storms are encouraged to register the missing person’s information on the Kentucky Emergency Management website at www.kyem.ky.gov or through the American Red Cross Safe and Well Program at www.ameri canredcross.org.
