1000 Meals, Thank You For Letting Them Know They Matter

Three days ago, Rural Mom began an effort to bring in non-perishable, ready-to-eat food to the food shelves in Eastern Kentucky- home for Rural Mom and an area that has been devastated by a series of Tornadoes, then crippled further with snow storms.

Yesterday, thanks to the generosity of Friends, Family, and Rural Mom Readers, we were able to deliver $652.63 of food for those in need in our first round of efforts. Thanks to you, over 1000 meals will reach people living in homes without power or living in shelters, because they no longer have a home. God bless you for this kindness!

Local volunteers helping to unload

There is still much help needed. As quickly as food is coming in, it is being delivered to those in need. As a consumable, this sorely needed resource is scarce. In an already impoverished area, resources are few and supplies are not meeting demands.

Today, we need your help!

Here are the ways you can help:

1) RuralMom.com is sponsoring a food drive to help with immediate needs.

If you would like to make a direct donation to support FOOD SHELF efforts for Menifee and Morgan Counties, please donate via the PayPal button below.

100% of funds will  be used for food purchase to be delivered directly to shelters.  No amount is too small, when people are hungry, a few dollars can go a long way!

If you would like to make a donation by mail, please contact ruralmoms@gmail.com for mailing further information.

2) Charities and Organizaitons in the area are sponsoring a variety of drives for supplies and volunteers.  Additional donation information, additional drop-off locations, and numerous local volunteer opportunities can be found at

3) If you are unable to offer support in the form of supplies, time, or a monetary donation, please consider forwarding this information and helping us to reach a wider base – helping to spread the word is a beautiful way to donate!

Friends or family who have been unable to locate loved ones since Friday’s storms are encouraged to register the missing person’s information on the Kentucky Emergency Management website at www.kyem.ky.gov or through the American Red Cross Safe and Well Program at www.ameri canredcross.org.
